Happy Trans Awareness Week 2022 from everyone at Chichester Pride! This week is about advocating for trans rights and raising the profile of the trans community.
We encourage everyone who may have a loved one, friend, colleague, neighbour or acquaintance that identify as trans to join us in raising the visibility of the transgender community and help make society safer for all.
Chichester Pride will continue to support the trans community and will always raise the voices of the trans community.
I only learned of Transgender Awareness Week last year, 2021, and I am trans. There is always time to learn about yourself and others. We are all in the same storm, in our boats, and some even hanging on by a safety line. If we can learn about all humans and help to encourage rather than discriminate, then we all have a fighting chance of having an equal and good life." - Melissa Hamilton
This week we will bring attention to the community by educating the public about who transgender people are, sharing experiences, and advancing advocacy around the issues of discrimination and violence that affect the transgender community.
The week ends on Transgender Day of Remembrance, which this year lands on November 20th.
TDOR is an annual observance that honours and pays respect to the memory of transgender people whose lives were lost due to acts of anti-transgender violence.
